The Mediation Center

The mission of The Mediation Center is to create opportunity from conflict.

The Mediation Center is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization serving Buncombe, Henderson, Transylvania and Polk Counties.

Since 1984, we have served Western North Carolina with conflict resolution services. Specifically, The Mediation Center offers family visitation, mediation, youth conflict resolution, and other related training services.

We strive to create a safer and more peaceful community for everyone.

You can find our 2023-2024 Annual Report here.

Finding Common Ground

Sometimes people need help to resolve conflicts. The Mediation Center helps individuals, youth, families, and community groups find workable solutions. With the support of a neutral, trained mediator, disputes can be resolved peacefully. We believe that communication, facilitated by a trained mediator, can help individuals, families, and community groups find common ground.

About Our Services
Family Visitation

We believe that every child should have an opportunity to form positive, healthy relationships with both parents, despite any previous conflicts.

At our Buncombe and Henderson County locations, the Family Visitation Program offers children-focused supervised visitation services to facilitate safe, positive interactions between children and non-custodial parents. We also offer safe exchange services that enable custody exchanges without contact between parents.

Mediation

We offer mediation services intended to help individuals, youth, families, workplaces, and community groups peacefully resolve wide-ranging disputes. Through mediation, we offer a non-judgmental, confidential, and voluntary process for conflict resolution.

Additionally, we provide specialized mediation services, including: Re-Entry Mediation which supports individuals preparing for release from the prison system to establish open productive lines of communication with loved ones; Medicaid Mediation services which assist individuals who are navigating the Medicaid appeals process; and Youth Mediation services which helps youth get back on track at home, school, and in the community by resolving conflict and building interpersonal skills.

Training and Workshops

We are dedicated to helping individuals and groups in our community build strong conflict resolution skills. The Mediation Center periodically offers trainings and workshops geared towards attorneys, DRC-certified mediators, therapists, social workers, human services professionals, managers, community leaders, and more.
