Thank you for considering a conflict resolution skills workshop with the Mediation Center.   Over the years, we have trained thousands of community members in mediation skills, meeting facilitation, and conflict resolution skills.  We look forward to working with you to provide training that will meet the unique needs of your groups.

Workshops, which can be customized for you:

Conflict First Aid for Your Workplace

Half day – $500, Full day – $950, up to 16 participants*

Before the day of the workshop, we’ll learn more about your team your values, and the types of conflict you encounter.  This workshop will be customized to help your team explore common conflicts in their work and develop concrete skills to approach those conflicts in a way that is in line with your organization’s values.  Providing conflict resolution skills training to your team can relieve pressure on supervisors, lead to happier clients, and help your organization move thorough tough spots without compromising your values.

Community Mediation Skills

4 full days – $4600 for up to 16 participants*

Mediators stand in the middle of conflict.  In this 4-day interactive training, participants will:

  • Explore different the different styles of response to conflict and learn more about your own approach.
  • Deepen your listening and communication skills
  • Learn to be neutral in the midst of anger
  • Figure out how to be helpful without giving advice
  • Feel more comfortable in the midst of conflict
  • Get hands-on practice, personalized feedback, and a new perspective on conflict

Your staff or group members will be more confident and comfortable in the face of conflict.  This training is ideal for social workers, law enforcement, public servants, school personnel, health care workers, customer service representatives, community organizers, and neighborhood leaders.

Conflict Resolution Skills for Supervisors

Half day – $500, Full day – $950, up to 16 participants*

The workplace is a natural venue for interpersonal conflict. When conflicts are handled productively, organizations have the opportunity to develop their employees and build a stronger team.   Participants will learn skills they can use now to positively handle conflict between peers, employees, volunteers, and clients. Participants will leave the workshop ready  to create an environment where conflict creates opportunities for positive growth and doesn’t get in the way of your goals.  We will work with you to customize the training to relate to the unique needs and environment of your team. 

Be the Calm in the Storm: Managing Conflict with Compassion and Confidence

For therapists, social workers, and human services professionals*

CEU credit available

Half day – $500, Full day – $950, up to 24 participants

Social workers, therapists, and other human services professionals encounter conflict on a daily basis, which can create discomfort both personally and professionally.  Effective conflict resolution is grounded in empowerment, self-determination, non-judgment, and social justice.  When conflict is managed effectively, human service providers create opportunities for hope, healing, and stronger relationships.

Participants will leave this workshop with:

  • A greater understanding of how your personal approach to conflict influences your professional approach
  • Fresh strategies for identifying the values and interests at the root of conflict
  • More confidence to help clients resolve conflict in their lives
  • Tools for working productively with court-ordered or resistant clients

Meeting Facilitation: Harnessing the Power of Groups

Full day – $950 up to 16 participants.  

Well-led meetings help groups and organizations improve planning, encourage collaboration, and manage conflict. In this  interactive course, we will cover effective meetings start to finish – from developing clear objectives, setting structured agendas, choosing creative process tools, and moving the group efficiently towards the goal. Participants will learn how to encourage effective brainstorming, maintain order, ask facilitative questions, balance participation between members, build consensus, encourage buy-in, and tap into the wisdom of the group.  At the end of the training, participants will have developed a “tool-box” of more than a dozen adaptable processes appropriate for all kinds of meetings.  Everyone will have the opportunity to practice facilitating and receive feedback. 

Family Decision Making:  Making Care Decisions for Elderly Relatives

Half day – $500, Full day – $950, up to 16 participants*

Caring for an aging loved one can put significant stress on families and caregivers. Communicating effectively during emotional, tiring, and stressful times can preserve relationships and bring peace to those who are making tough choices, sharing the load, and dealing with grief.  Participants learn about family dynamics present in eldercare decision making; learn skills to communicate and advocate with compassion and confidence; and practice communicating their needs and desires.
